A couple of newsletters ago, I shared a video I posted to TikTok calling out Kanye West and Kyrie Irving for their antisemitism and asking for voices of support from the Black and non-Jewish communities.
The response on TikTok was not encouraging. Of the ninety-five comments, only fourteen offered support or encouragement. Many could be best described as indifferent to the bigotry: fans of the two icons stating how awesome they were. As a response to my video, I would consider such indifference to be antisemitic.
And then there were comments like these:
“Times almost up buddy enjoy & quit crying.” This guy may be a total moron. But he’s far from alone. The response to my video makes this clear. No one had to comment in any way at all to my video. These people had to harbor enough antisemitic energy to actually stop scrolling and write something.
