-This is a bad decision, and this is a hard day, especially for women, who, collectively, have lost a very significant measure of control over their own bodies and their own futures here in the United States. Over a sizable swath of the American map, abortions have become already or will soon become banned. On this fundamental issue of personal autonomy for women, many of our states will be on par with these countries listed below who ban abortion:
Andorra, Aruba (territory), Republic of the Congo, Curaçao (territory), Dominican Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Jamaica, Laos, Madagascar, Malta, Mauritania, Nicaragua, Palau, Philippines, San Marino, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Suriname, Tonga, and West Bank & Gaza Strip (Palestinian territories).
Today, many American women edge a bit closer to women from these countries and territories on measures such as personal autonomy and economic opportunity. That’s a very bad result.
-We are now in the morally absurd and untenable position as a country of regarding a particular medical procedure as advisable in many states and as murder in many others. There are some questions of such a fundamental moral nature that they require a uniform national answer. We can't have a country that makes moral sense in which the same citizen could be deemed morally upright in certain states and a mass murderer in others.
