It is tempting to think of the Dobbs decision as a victory for the devout. However, even the furthest right flanks of religions aren’t of one mind. As for the followers of these religions, a majority across the board believe women should have the right to choose. So while Dobbs creates the likelihood of very absolutist legislation such as bans in many states, these laws would represent the views of not just the minority of people, but the minority of religious people, and even the minority of religions. In fact, as the statements of even the most right wing Jewish groups indicate, any ban would deny the Jewish religious imperative to protect the life of the mother even at the cost of the life of the fetus.
